‘The Art of Glassware’ by Jean Haudieguer de Blancourt is one of the most important and earliest treatises on glass making. First published in 1697, this book covers glass blowing, art with glass, manufacturing glass, crystal, pearls, precious stones, and porcelain; as well as techniques on preparing paints using metals, herbs, and flowers. Other important topics discussed in this work include how to make precious stones, maintenance of enamel, glass eyeballs, mirrors and mirror making, and numerous references to alchemy and the Philosopher’s Stone.

This rare first edition features impressive engravings depicting glassmaking tools and furnaces. English editions were published in 1699.
