Cornelius Tromp was a 17^th-century Dutch naval admiral who served in the Anglo-Dutch Wars in battles such as the Battle of Leghorn and the Battle of Texel. He has long been considered a Dutch naval hero, which, following his death in 1691 a fascinating account of his life and military career was written by an unknown hand. This work, which some attribute to Tromp himself, is perhaps the best and most accurate account of Tromp’s life.
