1683 1st ed Aegyptiaca EGYPT Israel Ten Lost Tribes Judaica Pagan Herman Wits
Hermann Wits was a 17th-century Dutch monastic theologian who studied systematic theology. While most of his works were written to help reconcile Johannes Cocceius’s theology with orthodoxy, one of his most important books was ‘Aegyptiaca’ – a treatise on the religions of ancient Egypt compared to the Jewish traditions. Wits, also called Witsius, studied the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel and discussed their role in Judaica as well as Egyptian theology. Ultimately, Wits sought to argue that Judaism was not derived from Ancient Egyptian pagan rituals.
This 1683 first edition printing is extremely rare; in fact, only second and later editions are found for sale elsewhere.
