Pieter de Neyn’s “Lust-hof der Huwelyken” is a late 17^th-century treatise on the ceremonial customs and rites of weddings and funerals from around the world. Neyn covers numerous cultures including natives of Brazil, Native American Indians, Southern Asia, and India, as well as African tribes. Neyn also gives attention to notable Dutch voyagers including Jan Huyghen van Linschoten.

 

However, the greatest appeal of this work is Neyn’s consideration of the Americas. According to Sabin, this work

“[known as] The Pleasant Matrimonial Garden, treats the following American tribes: Appalachians, Brazilians, Inhabitants of Guiana, Florida, Ingas (i.e. Incas), New-Netherland, New-France, Virginia.”
