Athanasius Kircher was a 17^th-century Jesuit scholar who published works on a wide variety of topics. He studied magnetism, geology, medicine, even Egyptian hieroglyphs. Perhaps, though, his most important contribution to the world of mathematics was his book ‘Tariffa’. This work was one of the most important 17^th-century treatises to cover arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry and their influences and uses in music and navigation.
