Moses Maimonides was one of the most important medieval Jewish philosophers. He studied a wide variety of topics including astronomy, medicine, Jewish theology, and Egyptian and Jewish history. It is curious, though, that he has become revered by both Jewish and Islamic groups for his contributions to sciences and philosophy.

 

One of this more notable works was his extensive book on Jewish religious law. Jewish scholar Humphrey Prideaux translated many of these works and added his own commentary. This work, published in Oxford in 1679, is a work on laws relating to the poor, paupers, homeless, and beggars and includes Prideaux’s Latin translation and commentary.
