1677 1ed Display of Supposed Witchcraft Webster Glanvill WITCHES Demons Occult
John Webster was a 17th-century English controversial author who is best-remembered for his works on witchcraft and astrology. The 1677 first edition of his book ‘Displaying of Supposed Witchcraft’ was Webster’s attempt to put an end to the ‘witchcraft debate’ between himself and Joseph Glanvill. This debate was easily the most extensive debate over witchcraft in England during this era.
Webster, an occultist, curiously fought to completely abolish witchcraft and all of its branches from England entirely and used natural phenomena as the basis for unexplained occurrences. Glanvill vehemently defended witchcraft and the existence of powerful witches and demons.
This example of the 1677 first edition of Webster’s attack on Glanvill is considerably valuable and rare!
