1673 1ed Edward Brown Voyages in Hungary Greece Ottoman Empire Germany Turks 2n1
Edward Browne was a 17th-century British doctor who is curiously much better known for his extensive voyages and travel literature. Most of Browne’s journeys took him to Central and Southern Europe where he toured Germany, Hungary, Greece, and Macedonia and countless locations in between. He wrote a highly popular travelogue of his experiences published under the title “A Brief Account of some Travels”.
This 1673 first edition of ‘Travels’ is bound with his 1677 description of Germany, following his tour in Germany and Austria. These works have maintained their popularity throughout the centuries much in part to the exquisite engravings depicting iconic locations in Europe and the Ottoman Empire, animals, and his sightings of the Cross and Half-Moons (more commonly known as the star and crescent)!
