Esprit de Raimond de Mormoiron was a 17^th-century French military writer known for his role in the Battle of La Marfee during the Thirty Years’ War as well as the more famous Naples Revolt of 1647. In the summer of 1647, Spanish rule placed numerous excessive taxes on the locals of Naples which spurred a violent, months-long revolt. Mormoiron’s first-hand account of the Naples Revolt has long-been one of the best accounts of the uprising and is an important source on the feudal and political climate of Spanish and Neapolitan nobility during the Thirty Years’ War.
