1653 English Improved Waltr Blith Husbandry FARMING Agriculture CROMWELL England
A very rare and valuable 17th-century farming and husbandry manual!
Walter Blith was a 17th-century English writer who is primarily remembered for his works on husbandry. Blith was intent on providing farmers on instruction with his new and improved farming practices, and did so with his book ‘The English Improver’. Dedicated to Oliver Cromwell, this book dealt with harvesting crops many of which were uncommon to England at the time. Interestingly, Blith was concerned, not only with agriculture and English farmers’ land but also their spiritual well-being. Many of the directions included in this book feature directives on how to improve one’s heart as it pertains to God, noting God as the ‘great Husbandman’.
This 1653 edition contains information on planting grass, welde and woad, hops and saffron, hemp, cole-seed, the use of plows, and much more.
