“Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly.”

― Francis Bacon

A rare collection of important works of Francis Bacon bound together as one!

Francis Bacon, one of the most famous English philosophers and scientists of the Renaissance. While most of his work deals with discovery, scientific method, and the scientific revolution, he did lean strongly toward Puritanism in his personal devotion.

This book ‘Sylva Sylvarum’ with ‘Novus Atlas’ is a famous set of philosophical treatises covering topics such as medical treatments for prolonged life and preservation of youth by using opium! Bacon wrote this book as a collection of miscellaneous topics – others include ancient wisdom and secrets. Also, this work is bound with another of his works, ‘New Atlantis’.

This 1648 Elzevier edition was edited and translated by Janus Gruterus and was executed alongside the Hackium edition in Leyden the same year.

Curiously, this tome includes a short essay entitled, ‘Epistolic Dissertation’ written by the famed Dutch Renaissance scholar Daniel Heinsius.
