1647 Ingenious Horology Bobynet Gnomonic CLOCKS Sundial Time Watches Illustrated
Pierre Bobynet’s ‘Ingenious Horology’ is a rare 17th-century treatise on the history and use of timepieces, clocks, and sundials. Bobynet, a Jesuit professor of moral theology in France, introduced concepts of ‘artificial numbers’ and ‘artificial arithmetic’ in his book (Shagan p. 258). It was rather curious though, that a theology professor took such an interest in clocks, most because he is much more well-known because of his attention and studies on clocks than theology.
This work is filled with 24 incredible illustrated plates depicting arithmetic and geometric charts, sundials, clocks, instruments, and compasses.
