1645 Guybert Health SECRETS Medicine for Poor WINE Cures Plague Homeopathy
Philbert Guybert was a 17th-century physician who is best known for writing his collection of ‘charitable’ works. Guybert had a desire to care for the poor and his works were designed to as a self-help book and offered accessible and affordable remedies for illnesses of varying degrees including treating the plague.
He also wrote about using wine as a medicine and how to make medicinal wine and jellies. This was important as it helped establish accepted processes for drying ingredients used in powders and pills. Guybert provides lists of common substances and their medicinal properties including vegetables, plant, minerals, and animal – all which Guybert considered to be medicinal in some way. (Perkins, p.122)
It was an important book in helping quell the conflicts between Parisian apothecaries and doctors of the time.
