- Reverend Peter Rae (1671-1748), an 18th-century Scottish churchman who is remembered for controversially running a printing press in Dumfries, Scotland. It was with this business that he produced the very first Scottish newspaper outside of the major cities in Scotland. With this press he also published his own writings, including a discourse against the Acts of Union that took place in 1707 and “A History of the Late Rebellion (1718)”, both of which are still cited today.
