Nicolas Monardes was a 16^th-century Spanish physician who is best remembered for his work ‘Historia Medicinal’. Monardes had his educational roots in botany where he studied herbs and plants. He studied pharmaceuticals and herbal medicine and decided to publish a work of his findings. He covered herbs and plants that form disease remedies and resins, medical uses for tobacco, as well as animal products that could be extracted and used as medicines.

 

This 1582 Latin edition of ‘Historia Medicinal’ was published in Antwerp by the famous Plantin Press.
