Leandro Alberti was a 15th-century Italian historian who gained his fame from his work ‘Description of Italy’. This work includes descriptions of geographical and topographical aspects of Italy, in fact the 1917 Catholic Encyclopedia notes that this work
“contains many valuable topographical and archaeological observations.”
This 1577 edition was the first edition following the first edition in 1550. It was a popular work throughout Italy, especially in Bologna where Alberti was from; a place in which he wrote extensively about in ‘Descrittione’. This work also contains important descriptions of Venice and Sicily; treatises describing them as ‘magnificent’.
