He was born around 1518 by Giambattista, belonging to a family of notaries, and was the elder brother of the poet Paul .
In 1528 he entered the family ‘ hotel Cattaneo .
His literary talent emerged early, so as to obtain the position in 1535 to transcribe the Castigatissimi Annals of Genoa Agostino Giustiniani .
He studied in Perugia and Rome , where he began to get noticed as a writer in the influential Roman cultural landscape.
In 1559 he published the dialogue Of the things of the Republic of Genoa, in which the text had criticized the actions of the Andrea Doria and the “Old” Genoese nobility. This work resulted in his banishment, which forced him to move to Rome with his uncle Agostino , important ecclesiastical personalities.
Around 1560 he was born the son Agostino.
In 1572 he published the clarorum Ligurum commends, in which extolled the artistic skills of his brother Paolo. Two years later he published a text in defense of Latin , the De linguae Latinae et usu praestantia base, but also praised the work of the Bembo . The last work, the Genuensium Historia was published, translated in Genoa by his brother Paul, posthumously.
