Unsure? Ask an Expert!

A rare and rather obscure 16th-century New Testament Bible.

New Testament’s from this era are certainly considered to be rare; however, generally speaking, their rarity should not be equated to unknown. Most Bibles from this era are recognized by the USTC as well as Darlow and Moule; and while most are collated by one of the two reputable references, this specific Bible is an anomaly.

Since this tome lacks the general title page, dating becomes more difficult; though through collation and woodcut count, most Bibles can be recognized. This Bible is thought to be published in Lyon by Antoine de Harsy (as the hand-drawn title page states), though there are no records of Harsy publishing a Bible in Lyon during that era. Curiously, the collation matches no other examples of New Testament Bibles – making this an exceedingly rare find!

Even still, this charming Bible features the Vulgate Latin of the New Testament books, marginal scripture references, and over 100 woodcut engravings throughout.
