1564 Medieval John of Jandun ARISTOTLE Metaphysics Philosophy Anima Averroes
An impressive 16th-century collection of commentaries on the works of Aristotle!
John of Jandun was a 14th-century French philosopher whose surviving works defended Aristotelian theories. His works focused on uncovering the theories of the world, its forms, and its substances through a series of questions. Jandun’s “Questiones” is an important study into Aristolte’s metaphysics with much of his writing discussing the differences between reason and theological belief stressing the importance of reason and philosophy over theology.
This 1564 edition was published in Venice by Hieronymum Scotum – an impressive and highly desirable vellum-bound folio. This tome contains three separate parts including Jandun’s commentary on “Anima” as well as Marcantonio Zimara’s notes on Jandun’s Aristotle and Averroes.
