Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher and scientist who is regularly considered the ‘Father of Western Philosophy.’ His extensive writings cover a variety of topics from physics and zoology to metaphysics and psychology.

One of Aristotle’s most important works philosophical works was ‘Politics’, a work in which the activities of the city and how the acts of man determine the successes of a city. He covers citizenship, slavery, political virtues, types of governing bodies, constitutional drafting, and most importantly the ideal state of a city.

This 1551 Venice edition was collected and edited by Bernardo Segni, a Hellenist historian who is primarily remembered for his translations of Aristotle into Italian. Note the impressive, 15^th-century manuscript on the boards of this example.
