A rare, first edition of Paul Giovio’s “Life of Visconti” bound with “Apologia Cuiusdam” of Henry II. Giovio, or Paul Jove, was one of the most important historians during the early 16th-century. His works dealt mainly with providing descriptions of royal families such as the House of Visconti and House of Sforza.
This book was printed by the famous Robert Stephani, part of the famous Estienne printing. It also includes 10 fine woodcut portrait engravings as part of the biographies of the members of the house of Visconti. Portraits include:
