“When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes.”

― Erasmus

While best known for his ‘In Praise of Folly’ and ‘Colloquies’, Desiderius Erasmus wrote other important works including his writings written in conjunction with the controversies between himself, Guillaume Bude, and Germain de Brie. One on occasion, Erasmus was frustrated by Guillaume Bude’s edition of ‘Ciceronianus’, but De Brie intervened and became an advocate for Erasmus and his philosophical views of Cicero.

In 1528, the same year as the dispute over Bude, Silvius and Wechel published these letters. In addition to the de Brie letters, this small example contains Erasmus’s letters to Jean Gachi of Cluses and Maarten Lips.
