Robert Peary was a 19^th-century American explorer who made his fame on his numerous expeditions to the Arctic regions and claiming to have reached the North Pole. Following to his 1909 expedition to the North Pole, Peary published an account of his experiences entitled simply ‘The North Pole’.

This narrative explained the difficulties of his voyages but also celebrated the first successful voyage to reach the North Pole. Interestingly, this 1910 first edition of Peary’s narrative includes an introduction by Teddy Roosevelt and the coveted folding color map!
